Throw out your chalk lines and trash your plumb bobs—-Crossfire is all you'll need. Just place it where you need it and the Crossfire levels itself for accurate straight, level lines every time. It's spendier than Black & Decker's Sight-Line model, but you do get more for your money, and its "cool factor" is high. First, it levels itself automatically, eliminating the need to squint at bubble vials and ensuring accuracy, something we've never been fond of. But what distinguishes this laser is that it projects two lines at once—-one vertical, one horizontal—-and the position of each can be adjusted individually. So if you need a square work area, the smooth rack-and-pinion mechanism will let you create it easily. We think this is the perfect tool for laying floor tiles or hanging a suspended ceiling. Once you've got your hands on it, you'll find dozens of uses around the house.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

5 out of 5 stars Very Accurate!!   December 9, 2005

I set up two level reference points using my Zircon Electronic Water Level and my best 4' level, then I checked them with my new Crossfire Laser Level. It was right on the money!! Very nice tool.

5 out of 5 stars Great function and great design   April 13, 2006

I absolutely love great design... assuming the guts work accurately. This level fits both requirements.

Functionally: The level is accurate and the laser is bright and projects a long distance.

Design: It was designed but someone who actually uses them. It has a flat base so it can be used by itself. And it also has a base that the level attaches to with a magnet (brilliant). The base itself is flat, so it can be set down, but it also has other options to position it: built-in pins to attach to the wall, a hole for a nail or screw, and a loop to hang it from the ceiling. Once in the base, the level can be adjusted vertically (barely, so place it near the right height), and horizontally with knobs.

5 out of 5 stars Very good   August 17, 2006

This is one of the most usefull tool I have. The self-leveling feature ensures accurate horizontal and/or vertical lines. However, the laserbeam is not bright enough for outdoor use.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful for tiling walls   July 11, 2006

If you're tiling a wall, I'd consider this an indispensable tool. You can quickly set up the level for an entire row of tiles and check the plumb as you set each tile. It's especially handy around corners, because you can check the level on each wall simultaneously, something you just can't do with an ordinary level. When a wall isn't plumb, you can compensate by simply marking the laser line on the tile and cutting to it rather than taking different measurements up the wall and hoping you get the angle right.

This is a very well engineered product at its price point. The only real drawback I've found is that switching it on or off, or changing between modes, always requires resetting the level when you turn it back on. Better to leave it always on and stock up on 9V batteries.

5 out of 5 stars The Answer to a Nightmare   March 28, 2005

Did you ever get yourself in a jam when hanging a picture, and no matter where you put up the nail in the wall, the picture still wound up looking crooked, even from far across the room? We had this nightmare happen to us on Wednesday, and after a few temper tantrums I remembered that we had the Crossfire Laser still sitting in its box from Christmas under the stairs.

It didn't take a minute to figure out how to use the thing, and as you are aware twin lasers appear and trace any 90 degree angle you like. You'll be surprised that you won't need any chalk (or ballpoint pen) to put the mark on the wall, and it measures perfectly the distance from the floor and ceiling with ease, without having to squint to see the bubble line in the tube as we used to do for a level--in that tube that always looked like an oral thermometer. This one is far less messy. (As a sidelight, we found indeed that the reason the pictrure always hung crooked is because the frame itself wasn;t perfectly rectangular but instead was made in a slightly rhomboid shape! Who would have guessed it, and without the Black and Decker Crossfire we still would have been kicking ourselves.)

I can see using this for so many things that needed doing around the house, inside and out. It's easy to understand, it's lightweight, and it's accurate, almost scarily so. It's the answer to a common household nightmare.
