I'll start with the questions I'm asked most often when someone discovers that I am a "I am not a paper cup" owner: - Q: Does the lid fall off? A: The only time it has fallen off was when I took a sharp turn and the cup fell out of the cup holder which was already filled with odds and ends.
- Q: Does the lid leak around the edges? A: No, not at all.
- Q: Does it get too hot when filled with a hot beverage? A: Nope. Not in the slightest. The double chambered wall does the job just fine.
- Q: Does it get flavors "stuck" in it (e.g. coffee)? A: No they do not. This is why I've long been seeking a porcelain travel mug.
Now I'll address my personal concerns when I first bought it: - I was afraid the textured surface of the outside would gradually stain with coffee and grime that would rub off my hand, but this has not yet happened. It did take a small purple spot for a while when it got rubbed up against something, but that eventually disappeared.
- There's no air hole in the lid. This confused me to no end. Before my first use, I was constantly looking for a little hole along the lip or on the top because I was sure I had simply not seen it the last 3 times I had looked. The fact is that the lid is flexible enough to allow you to draw liquid from the cup without problem. This also limits the quantity you can take, but not significantly over the average lid of a paper cup.
- There's a rubber plug on the bottom of the cup. I was tempted to pull it out to see if I could find a prize when I realized that the plug is probably there for a reason. I read the packaging and discovered that this plug keeps liquid from entering the chamber of air between the two layers of porcelain.
I've been on a long quest for a quality ceramic mug and this guy hits the mark wonderfully. I've been recommending them to anyone who takes an interest.
Environmentally Friendly, Functional, Work of Art August 13, 2008 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have been eyeballing this thing for a while, but just could not justify buying an $18 coffee travel mug.
I finally caved...
I had gotten frustrated by the fact that I accumulate an average of 4 or 5 Styrofoam cups a day on my desk.
I wanted to be more environmentally responsible. I can use this cup as a regular and a travel mug, so it is versatile.
I also cannot stand drinking coffee out of plastic, rubber, or steel travel mug. I am sensitive (ok i am a taste snob), and I can taste the plastic and metal in the coffee. NOT in this porcelain vessel; all you taste is the coffee.
The other thing is the aesthetic qualities. This thing is functional art. I love the beauty and the symbolic duality it represents of disposable vs reusable. The thing is quirky.
Ok, maybe I am over-analyzing this; it's only a cup. But I am glad I purchased it.
The only thing is, if it slips out of my hand it will shatter. Fragile.
So as long as I am cautious this thing is a good life-time investment in good tasting coffee and helping environment by reducing disposable cup usage.
This is the cup/mug I have been looking for! July 17, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This cup/mug is exactly what I have been looking for. I love coffee and am somewhat of a mug collector. Until I purchased this mug yesterday, everything has either been a good mug for home or ok for the car but nothing has been good for both. This mug is great all around. Nice lip around the edge when drinking without the lid, white so I can see the quality of coffee (for those that know, you know...), nice heft to it, double walled construction for insulation....perfect!
Great cup made of safe material November 21, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this cup after working as a chemist in a lab. There, I learned how much plastic can slough off containers and cups, especially at high temperatures. Even though no links have been made between ingesting most plastics at small doses and health, I'd rather not ingest it. The cup is ceramic, a material that does not slough off. The lid is made of silicone, the same thing that covers baby spoons. Unlike the previous reviewer, my cup has a hole on the lid through which you can drink (although it's more convenient to drink without the lid). I addition, it can contain 12 ounces- the same size as a Tall cup at Starbucks. So go ahead and ask the barista there to make your drink in it.
Best travel mug by far December 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"I am not a Paper Cup" is double walled, maybe not as thermal as double-walled stainless, but still keeps coffee hot longer than a regular ceramic cup. The lid fits perfectly and is much more pleasant to sip from compared to the hard plastic lids. It fits every single car cup holder perfectly. To get the desired volume, fill to the very top, as the lid is absolutely dribble proof. Best thing, it is ceramic, not metal or plastic. I can't wait till they have it in dark brown and some funky patterns.
