Solidly Built and Decidedly Functional May 4, 2006 109 out of 110 found this review helpful
I must admit that I'm an occasional ironer, having long ago embraced a wash-and-wear lifestyle and wardrobe. There are, however, articles of clothing which simply demand to be ironed. There is also from time to time that load of laundry that has stayed in the dryer for several days because everyone in the house is too busy or too lazy to attend to it until it has wrinkled beyond the dryer's poor ability to address. So I iron when it's absolutely necessary, and never more often.
But even an occasional ironer needs the proper tools - both to do an acceptably good job and to reduce the seemingly inevitable dread. Every time I pulled out my old ironing board, it screamed "I AM SO CHEAP." It was the kind of lightweight, poorly designed and constructed thing that typifies our throw-away society. It was short (and I am not), and it made my back hurt every time I ironed for nearly twenty years. Somewhere along the way I had bought a good iron - it was time for a good board.
A hundred bucks may seem like a lot for an ironing board. It did to me, anyway. Spend the money. This thing is worth it. It's solid - not at all tippy as mentioned in another post. The height adjustment has positive detents to give you that confident, "yes, it's going to hold" feeling when you set it up. There's a stand for your iron that appears to be perfectly proportioned for Rowenta's high-end steamer. There's a handy fold-away rack so you can hang your freshly ironed shirts and trousers. It also has a wire shelf underneath that I haven't figured out how or if I'll use, but it isn't in the way, and perhaps it'll come in handy for some people. The muslin cover isn't anything fancy, but it's well secured and, like the rest of this piece, refreshingly and admirably functional. The best part is its height: It adjusts from 25" to 39" ... a full four inches higher than my old board and most others I've found. If you're over six feet tall and you're ever going to lift an iron, do yourself a favor. I'm 6'5", and it's at the perfect height (arms extended, palms flat) for me at its vertical limit.
To sum it up, life's too short - get a good ironing board ... and this one's as good as it gets.
Finally a decent ironing board! May 12, 2007 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I love this ironing board. It's very stable, I can pile a weeks worth of laundry on the shelf under the board no problem. The fold up hanging rack is just perfect for holding all the ironed garments and it really does hold a lot-6 shirts, 3 pairs of slacks, 4 tops, 5 skirts, 1 dress (ok, so the dress did drag on the ground) and 3 pairs of jeans - and still no tipping! My iron sits perfectly on the ironing stand without sliding around. The board is a lot wider than anything I've ever used before and did take some getting used to especially when ironing shirts. I've found that because the board is wider, I can iron more of the garment with less turning and twisting so I get through it all faster. I get a better finish on all my laundry now, I've used the same iron for almost a year so the improvement has to be due to the ironing board cover and padding. The board can be adjusted through so many different heights, it's perfect for both me and my husband, he's ex-military and still likes to iron his shirts with sharp creases so he's really happy at how they look. Yes, the board is heavier than anything I've ever used but it's easy to fold up and store away, I'm over 50 and don't have a problem with the size and weight. My work collegues think I'm mad because I am so thrilled with my new ironing board, but ironing is a real chore and anything that can make life easier and speed me through my chores is welcome in my house. This ironing board does all that and more!
Not Your Average Ironing Board July 20, 2006 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I hate to iron - but this board certainly eases the pain! It's so sturdy - no wobbling from side to side. The extra wide surface is wonderful, allowing completion of an article of clothing without a lot of adjusting. The additional features are an added bonus! I would recommend this to anyone - well worth the cost.
The best ironing board I've ever owned! September 10, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I absolutely love my Rowenta ironing board! I searched for an ironing board with some stability. One that didn't wobble every time I moved the iron back and forth. Since I have owned and loved Rowenta irons for years, I decided to try the Rowenta ironing board. It was love at first use! It adjusts to fit any height individual---more adjustments than I've ever seen on any ironing board. It is a nice weight and grips the floor or carpet so it doesn't even move the least bit when I iron. It is a nice width so my ironing time is literally cut in half! I also notice that it is ventilated so well that the steam from my iron goes down and not up in my face---a BIG plus for me! Anyone can tell that I really love this board! I am in my 60's and have been ironing since I was 5 years old. I have always liked to iron, but now I LOVE to iron! Sure, it's a bit heavy, but who cares when it is the best ironing board in the world. With AMAZON, it's also a great price with free shipping!!!
rowenta professinal ironing board September 16, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was very pleased with the rowenta ironing board that I purchased through Amazon.com. I had read some negative reviews about this product, and I'm happy to say that none of them were true. First of all the ironing board is very stable and well made. It's a joy to have such a solid base to iron from. The board is not very heavy and I am a petite, small boned, middle-aged woman. The board is extremely easy to fold just by pressing on a button/lever. It's a joy to use such a well-made tool.
