Amazon.com Product Description Created with health and the environment in mind, these eco-friendly, high-quality stainless steel Klean Kanteen water bottles offer a great alternative to plastic and lined metal containers. Klean Kanteen bottles are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content, an excellent resistance to staining and rust, and will keep your beverages fresh, and sanitary. These reusable bottles are lightweight, easy to clean, durable, and will not react with acidic beverages. The single walled containers can be placed on an open flame or heating surface, but are not recommended as containers for boiling hot liquids as the Kanteen has limited insulating properties. Durable, sanitary, and non-reactive stainless steel is the material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. The sanitary grade 304 stainless steel used in Klean Kanteen bottles also has a low nickel content, further reducing exposure to potentially irritating substances. Easy to clean, the Klean Kanteen water bottles can be put in the dishwasher, or washed by hand with a brush and mild soap. Klean Kanteens come in sizes to meet the needs of the entire family. The 12 and 18-ounce containers are designed specifically for kids. In bottles designed for small hands, the 12 and 18 ounce bottles are available with sippy cup lid adapters along with the other sports cap options, and weigh just 6 and 8 ounces respectively. Adult sized 27 and 40 ounce Kanteens weigh just 8 and 11 ounces respectively, and are available with a choice polypropylene or steel caps. The openings are large enough to fit ice cubes, and the slim bottle design fits in most cup and bottle holders. Klean Kanteen water bottles are available with a variety of sports caps made with non-leaching polypropylene #5 or stainless steel. The sport, flat, and loop caps are interchangeable and fit all 12-, 18-, 27-, and 40-ounce stainless steel bottles securely. The Poly Sports Cap has a push release valve allowing you to drink on the go. The Flat Caps, available in polypropylene or stainless steel twist on and off securely. The Loop Caps, available in polypropylene or stainless steel, twist on and off securely, and have a top loop for easy attachment. The polypropylene #5 caps have no known leaching characteristics, and are softer on the teeth and easy to drink from. However, if you would rather avoid plastic altogether, the stainless steel caps are a great option. Specifications: - Non-leaching, toxin-free

Manufacturer's Warranty One-year warranty Frequently Asked Questions Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel? Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory. Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen? No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame. Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer? We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Can I put my Kanteen on a stove? In a pinch, the Kanteen can be placed on fire or a stove. Beware not to melt the plastic lid or burn yourself. What is stainless steel? Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries. Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert and sanitary.

Klean Kanteen water bottles are the Best! August 24, 2007 316 out of 322 found this review helpful
I have owned 3 KK bottles for over a year now and love them. They all have the loop ss cap and have never leaked. They clean easily, are lightweight, and the water tastes great. They have been dropped several times, and are fine even though they have dents. I would reccommend these water bottles to anyone!
I'm about to purchase a KK sippee for my baby. After reading the review from the person comparing to Sigg, I decided to research the Sigg. After searching for over 15 minutes on the sigg.com website, I could not find any information on the composition of their aluminum bottle liner. I then queried the web and found the USA Sigg website (mysigg.com/faq) and this is what i found regarding the liner composition: "The ingredients (like the formula for Coca-Cola) remain secret and unavailable to 3rd parties so as to ensure SIGG retains its competitive advantage. The key of course is that the SIGG liner is FDA approved and independently tested to be taste and scent inert - and resistant to any leaching (0.0%) so 100% safe."
I, personally, do not take corporations 'word for it' that something is safe, and by no means do I trust the FDA's standards. Saying something is secret definitely does not increase my trust. I am a hydrogeologist and have spent hundreds of hours testing water and reviewing lab reports. Simply stating that there is no leaching does not mean much to me. For ex, under what conditions were the bottles tested? -- Sitting in a hot car for hours, sitting in the sun, carried in a pack for hours, etc. These are real conditions for water bottle usage. In addition, why is there not a link to the lab reports showing what was tested for, when, and by whom? I would think this important information would be listed on their flashy website.
I am not associated whatsoever with Klean Kanteen or anyone else, simply a crazy researcher/mom trying to find information. I decided the Klean Kanteens are still the best choice - no mystery in stainless steel construction. According to KK website, "Stainless steel is easy to clean, durable, inert, sanitary, toxin-free, and non-leaching."
Lastly, the designs are not fancy on the KK, however their is no paint to peel (this happens on the siggs) which would be a hazard for my baby who puts everything in his mouth.
Consumer awareness is what pushes corporations into publishing important health information, such as materials & chemicals used (liner composition) and lab reports veryifying that something is indeed 'safe' and has been tested adequately.
Don't let my opinion convince you, you be the judge...
Good bye polycarbonate! January 17, 2008 95 out of 96 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these for myself after researching the problems with polycarbonate bottles. At the same time I bought SIGG bottles for my kids because they had cool designs on them. Both brands of bottles are great and much safer than the polycarbonates. I like the Klean Kanteen much better than the SIGG for the simple reason that I can put standard ice cubes in it. I have yet to find an ice cube tray that is easy to use that will fit the smaller mouth of the SIGG.
With the Klean Kanteen I get clean water and no taste of metal or plastic or anything other than water. I fill this 27 ounce bottle 3 times during the day to make sure I get enough water. I like the sports cap, because I don't have to take off a cap and lay it down somewhere. I originally bought the bottle with a poly loop cap, but when I am teaching there is never a germ-free spot to set that lid down. So I bought a sport cap, and it is very easy to drink from.
If you buy the 27 ounce Klean Kanteen and like your water cold, I recommend a Built NY 20 oz bottle tote to use with it. The metal becomes VERY cold with ice in the water and with the bottle tote, it stays cold and your hands don't!
Great Product November 26, 2006 46 out of 49 found this review helpful
I just purchased the 40 oz. size. The cap fits well and seals well. The company told me that all the different sizes use the same cap now, so there is no fit problem. The bottle is well finished and strong. Easy to drink from. It is wonderful to be using stainless steel now, and no longer be using Nalgene, which is polycarbonate plastic, and a possible health hazard (bisphenol A).
Rugged and well-thought out January 6, 2007 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I have been after the perfect water bottle for years and this is the closest I've found. What I like: *It's metal, not plastic. If needed you could cook in it--say if you needed to melt snow for water. *It's stainless steel, not aluminium. I have a collection of Sigg and Brunton bottles made out of thinner aluminium that are significantly crushed in places, most often the bottom vertical edge which is at a right angle. The dings occured even inside neoprene protective sheaths. The bottom vertical edge of the clean canteen is rounded and so better resist dings. I've used a Klean Kanteen without a neoprene sheath twice as long as the aluminium ones without significant damage. I should say that I don't consider that the treatment they have received was particularly rough. It's just that in hiking and working out, bottles fall on occasion. *The mouth of the bottle is wide enough to fit ice cubes. With the Sigg and Brunton bottles, you either wait for the ice cube to melt and slide through or buy special ice cube trays. The wide mouth also means it's easier to clean. *The simple top and protective cap. On the Sigg, I've had one top completely crushed. The other is difficult to open since you have to twist and pull the tiny cap. I say tiny because I have large hands.
What I don't like is that it does whistle (whine?) when you drink. Placing your finger over the check valve ends the problem, but I would take off a half a star if I could because of this one aspect.
Finally, I would suggest the Built NY 20 oz. neoprene cover. It fits perfectly and looks slick.
Great water bottle! January 12, 2008 15 out of 17 found this review helpful
I love this water bottle. It's the perfect size, large enough, yet not so big that it can't slip into my backpack or be carried in hand comfortably. It's stainless steel so it's totally safe to drink from and durable-it should last years and years!
Klean Kanteen makes a good product.
