Amazon.com Product Description Wake up in style with the Sony ICF-C492 AM/FM clock radio. Outfitted with a jumbo 1.4-inch green LED display, variable brightness control, an analog AM/FM tuner--and yes, a big honkin' snooze bar--this handy companion is sure to get you going in the morning. The space-conscious design is attractive and stylish, with a modern aesthetic that takes up hardly any space on the nightstand. The large display is also a plus, as it makes it easy to tell time from a distance--a particular bonus for people with poor vision. Households with more than one sleeper will appreciate the dual alarm, which allows two separate people to wake at different times without resetting the alarm. And should you need a more abrupt noise than the radio can provide, the ICF-C492 offers both loud and soft buzzer alarms. Additional features include a sleep timer and a memory backup function that preserves the clock and alarm settings should the power go out (requires 9-volt battery). The clock radio measures 7.88 by 4 by 4.38 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box Clock radio, user's manual.
Product Description The Sony ICF-C492 AM/FM Large Display Clock Radio is a distinctive alarm clock that suits your individual style. Its sleek, space-saving design and multiple volume and brightness setting make it fit in with your decoration. The huge green LCD display make it easy to tell time from any distance and the variable brightness control lets you adjust the display level. Wake up to your favorite station or to the buzz of an alarm.

Great dimmer, easy to set, always works September 20, 2005 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
This is the fourth alarm clock I have tried in the last year, and this one is a keeper! I wanted a dual alarm that I could set very quiet since I am a light sleeper. I was shocked that two brand new alarm clocks I bought simply did not work right. I would set the alarm and it would not go off. This one works every time.
The dimmer on the display is great. I had one alarm clock that I had to drape with a cloth because it was so bright. That pretty much defeats the purpose. There's no need for a drop cloth with this clock.
The one little complaint that I have is that the dual alarm has one alarm on music and one alarm on buzzer. You can not have two different alarm settings that both play music.
This isn't as bad as I thought, though, because the alarm time is very easy to chage, yet you can't accidentally change it by bumping into it.
The radio reception is even good.
clock radio August 4, 2005 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is the best clock radio ever. The sound quality is good. It is easy to set and you can see the time clearly. We have had MANY clock radios over the years and they always seem to be missing something. This one has all the features that you need and it is easy to turn on and off in the dark. It also has a one hour sleep feature and it will turn off. I didn't want to buy this because it wasn't digital but my husband and I usually listen to news anyway. We love this radio.
Definitely a Dream Machine June 11, 2005 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The best AM/FM clock radio I've ever had. Why? - LARGE green number display with variable brightness control and compact design. These were my three top requirements for purchasing. Also is very stylish, with easy to use controls (has High/Low alarm volumes). Radio has exceptional tone quality. Great price too. Definitely will purchase a few more for gifts.
Excellent radio, but shop around October 6, 2005 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I concur with the other positive reviewers of this radio. Sound quality is very good, numbers are easy to read, and overall, very user friendly. However, depending on your state and possible shipping charges, check out other Internet sites for the best price.
How time flies November 14, 2006 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
My how time flies when you have a 15 year old alarm clock that wakes you up an hour late for work! I spent two days researching, purchasing and exhanging alarm clocks. I read so many reviews on Amazon, Circuit City, etc. I gave this quest to find the perfect clock my best effort, but what a hassle I went through.
The Sony ICF-C492 is not the perfect clock, but it has the major feature I require.
1- Adjustable brightness display. One clock I purchased, was bright enough to land a 747 at LAX airport!
2- Large numbers to read in the middle of the night. These are BIG, and that works good for me.
3- Easy access to the alarm off button. One of the many clocks I returned, required that you hit the snooze button, then fumble around for 2-3 minutes to turn the alarm off.
This unit is a basic alarm clock with all of the features I need, but it would be nice if it included more options. It doesn't automatically adjust the time, like many newer clocks do. It also lacks the feature where you can set the alarm for Monday-Friday.
Overall, I love this alarm clock! The dimmer feature is awesome, takes it right to the point of the perfect adjustment. One surprise when I opened the box, and the clock was so large! It takes up a good portion of my night stand. I would have bought this as a first choice (rather than spending two days shopping around). I got spooked in the begining by several people here on Amazon complaining that their Sony ICF-C492 clocks were running ahead of time, or fast by 5-10 minutes a month. That still concerns me a little, but for now this clock is great.
